Rufous-backed Robin – Cameron, AZ

This morning I had no intention of chasing this bird but at the last minute I turned right instead of left and drove to Cameron, Arizona.

From Phoenix its a little over 3 hours drive to the Cameron Trading Post, its a little oasis in the middle of the desert. The little gardens behind the hotel have alwas held birds, the 3 times I’ve been there.

Its always freaky when you drive long distances and hope the bird is still there.

As I walked down the pathway, something caught my eye and the rest is history, the bird gave me a lovely side view. I snapped 3 images and he dissappeared into the vegetation and I never saw him again.

This is my birdquest 670th bird and my 627 ABA bird.

Last Blitz for My Big Year…

I’ve been procrastinating for a few weeks now, as to whether I should go to Texas, Arizona and California.

News of Red-throated Pipits, Red-footed Booby’s, Amazon Kingfishers and numerous other life birds just kept eating away at me.  Today I booked my flights and away I go.

Ottawa-Phoenix-Play del Raya-Monterey-Tucson-San Antonio-South Padre-Aransas-Houston and back to Ottawa.  Its going to be a crazy 9 days.  Wish me luck.

I’ll be back on December 2nd, hopefully reaching my goal of 550 birds (wished I could have included Florida on this trip) for this year.

Below are some of the photos from my last trip through the area..
